Women’s Hats That Offer Sun Protection

Summer is finally here and it’s so important to protect yourself from the sun’s strong rays. Applying sunscreen first thing in the morning is the best way to ensure you are protected for the day. In addition, it’s important to wear sunglasses and a hat. While a big brimmed and floppy hat offers the best protection to your face, ears, and back of the neck, sometimes it isn’t practical or to be honest, we just don’t want to wear one of those big brimmed floppy hats. As an alternative, we offer Madcapz – fun colorful women’s baseball caps that do offer some protection from the sun.

New Sunscreen Regulations From FDA

We all know it’s better to stay out of the sun to prevent overexposure to the sun. And if you do go out, it’s important to protect your face and eyes with a hat and sunglasses. Of course, our preferred method of head covering is a Madcapz! But we know it’s impossible to stay out of the sun completely and now the FDA has addressed the labeling on sunscreens with new regulations with the hope of standardizing the sunscreen industry.

With over 2 million people diagnosed with skin cancer every year, the FDA has just approved more stringent and standard rules for sunscreens. These new regulations will address the labeling of sunscreens. The words “waterproof”, “sun protection”, and other phrases will be replaced with “Broad Spectrum” but only if the sunscreen passes a test of  providing a certain percentage of protection against UVA rays versus UVB rays. Sun Protection Tips To Keep You Safe

With summer on its way, (and in most parts of the country it seems as if it’s here already!) we have some sun protection tips that you can easily remember before you go out for the day. These tips can save you from serious sun-related problems, so take a moment to read on:

1) Wear Sunscreen – apply sunscreen as part of your morning routine. It will become a habit before you know it!

2) Wear Sun Protective Clothing – if you don’t wear sun protective clothing, at least be mindful of skin that is exposed and apply sunscreen or better yet, cover up!

3) Cover Your Head – with a Madcapz, of course!

4) Wear Sunglasses – your eyes are extremely sensitive and wearing sunglasses protects them from the sun’s harmful rays.

5) Don’t Go Out In Middle Of Day when the sun is strongest! Although this may not be practical on a day to day basis, if you are mindful that the sun is most dangerous between 10 and 3 you might begin to plan your day accordingly.

Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, accounting for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. This month, The American Cancer Society stresses the need to educate the public on how to make informed personal decisions about sun-safety. The best ways to prevent skin cancer include: avoiding the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., using sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, wearing a hat when you’re outside, and seeking shade in mid afternoon when the sun’s rays are strongest.
