FDA Approves New Sunscreen Rules
Friday, June 17th, 2011New Sunscreen Regulations From FDA
We all know it’s better to stay out of the sun to prevent overexposure to the sun. And if you do go out, it’s important to protect your face and eyes with a hat and sunglasses. Of course, our preferred method of head covering is a Madcapz! But we know it’s impossible to stay out of the sun completely and now the FDA has addressed the labeling on sunscreens with new regulations with the hope of standardizing the sunscreen industry.
With over 2 million people diagnosed with skin cancer every year, the FDA has just approved more stringent and standard rules for sunscreens. These new regulations will address the labeling of sunscreens. The words “waterproof”, “sun protection”, and other phrases will be replaced with “Broad Spectrum” but only if the sunscreen passes a test of providing a certain percentage of protection against UVA rays versus UVB rays. UVB rays cause sunburn and UVA rays go deeper causing premature aging. Both may lead to skin cancer.
